_hexagon tower, crumpsall

New Flickr set added of Hexagon Tower, Crumpsall, Manchester. Built as the research laboratories for ICI and designed by Richard Seifert & Partners, 1971.

Wonderfully sculptural with lots of deep shadows and the micro-mosaic exterior faces glistening from the saturday morning sun.

_ice cube & the eames

I know this has been knocking around for at least a month or so but a recent twitter chat reminded me of how good this video is. Hip hop heavyweight Ice Cube extols the good, bad and ugly of L.A. as well as the resourcefulness, pragmatism and clarity of the design of the Eames' Case Study House #8 reflecting on his pre-N.W.A. days as an architectural draftsman.

"This is going green 1949 style bitch, believe that" - if only Jonathan Glancey was as concise.
